In May 2022, a group of investors led by billionaire Todd Boehly acquired Chelsea for 5.2 billion USD, thereby ending the Roman Abramovich era.

In the summer of 2022, `The Blues` recruited eight players including Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka, Marc Cucurella, Cesare Casadei, Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and borrowed Denis Zakaria from Juventus.

During the mid-season transfer window, Stamford Bridge’s owners went shopping even more aggressively, recruiting Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto, Enzo Fernandez and loaning Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea continued to spend boldly this summer, bringing in Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Angelo Gabriel, Lesley Ugochukwu, Axel Disasi, Robert Sanchez, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Deivid Washington, Dorde Petrovic and most recently Cole Palmer.

These deals have brought Chelsea’s total spending after just one year under owner Todd Boehly to exceed the 1 billion pound mark (more than 1.2 billion USD).

To circumvent Financial Fair Play (FFP), Chelsea signs 6 to 8 year contracts with rookies to equally divide the transfer fee each year.

In addition to signing long-term contracts, Chelsea can spend heavily by liquidating contracts with stars.

On August 30, Chelsea reached an agreement to recruit Palmer from Man City for a fee of 50 million USD with 6.3 million USD in additional fees.

This season, Palmer scored in the British Super Cup and European Super Cup but was a substitute in all three opening Premier League matches.
