In midweek, Barca had no chance of getting into the Champions League knock-out round when Inter crushed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 at Giuseppe Meazza.

Real also did not play successfully, losing 2-3 at RB Leipzig Stadium and breaking their 20-match unbeaten streak, since the 0-1 loss at Atletico Stadium in La Liga on May 8.

Ancelotti emphasized that what happens in the Champions League does not affect the two-horse race between Real and Barca in La Liga.

`I don’t know if being eliminated from the Champions League has any impact or not, but Barca is still Real’s main opponent in the La Liga championship race,` Ancelotti said at the pre-match press conference.

Before this match week, Real was the leading team with the best performance in the top five European leagues.

Ancelotti praised his players for maintaining focus and dedication, even though the 2022 World Cup is near.

The Italian coach confirmed that Luka Modric, Dani Ceballos, Fede Valverde, Mariano, and Rodrygo have fully recovered and are ready to play today, but Karim Benzema has not returned.

Ancelotti is satisfied with Real’s current team and will not strengthen the force in January 2023.

The 63-year-old coach is wary of Girona’s strength even though the opponent is currently at the penultimate position with nine points.
